nbn® Fibre & Fixed Wireless upgrades: Faster internet for millions
By the end of 2025, more than 10 million Australian premises will be able to order a nbn® Fixed Line plan as well as more than 750,000 able to order a Fixed Wireless plan by the end of 2024, thanks to the nbnⓇ Fibre Upgrade and Fixed Wireless and Satellite Upgrade programs.

“The average Australian home now has more than 21 connected devices – despite that surge in data, two out of three Australians connected to nbn haven’t changed their plans within the last three years”. – Will Irving, Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer for nbn®

Currently, there are now another three million homes and businesses who can access a fibre connection, while an additional 400,000 Australian homes and businesses have been announced as part of the upgrade program.
Full fibre allows people to access nbn®’s fastest residential plan which is up to 18x faster than the average home broadband connection, making it perfect for large households, gamers and working from home. You can check if you can upgrade to full fibre by visiting nbn.com.au/FullFibre. For more information, visit Millions more Aussies ready for 18x faster nbn | nbn (nbnco.com.au).

The first of the Fixed Wireless upgrades are also now complete, opening up more space for Satellite customers across the nbn network. In November 2023, after upgrades to the local network, approximately 16,000 homes and businesses across the NSW South Coast and Queensland Sunshine Coast were the first to see access to faster speeds, including typical wholesale busy-hour speeds of at least 50 Megabits per second (Mbps).
This has meant that in that same region, 3,200 premises originally receiving nbn satellite services are now eligible for nbn® Fixed Wireless. This is in addition to over 1,000 premises relocated from the satellite footprint to the fixed wireless footprint in March 2023.
